Slices of Raja-5

It is hard to escape Mohan when you chronicle Raja's best. This song takes me back. To a time when returning from school meant piling into blue Fiat and listening to scratchy, overworked audio tapes and watching fearfully as my over-aggressive driver of a mother nearly destroyed the clutch in that car. To an Anna Nagar Roundtana that was so far less populated that compared to the current congestion I would not be remiss in calling it empty.
There was a reason I included the above youtube clip even though it isnt exactly the clearest and Poornima can't hold a mudra to save her life. That opening aalaap sung by S.P.B isn't available in most recordings available on the internet. Normally we would begin with the brilliant flute and guitar prelude but that aalaap somehow adds dimension to the song - significantly the portions with a strong carnatic influence backed by the mridangam.

இசை வாகனத்தில் என்றோ இளையான் என் நெஞ்சில் குடியேறிவிட்டார். இன்பமென்ற வாடகை வசூலிக்க நான் இன்றும் விழைகின்றேன்.
