Burn After Reading

Hilarious!
The Coen's do such an immaculate job of distancing us from the general conceit of the story that the characters and all of their misgivings result in complete laugh-out-loud ( LOL for the spelling challenged text message generation) situations. Every single ominous note in the sound recording just served to push me further and further into the recesses of rational judgement of the absurdist scenarios. And J.K.Simmons who is written in as a rational counterpoint, or in my understanding as the audience POV, absolutely kills! I really liked him in Juno and now the Coens give him another great role. The subtext I saw - In a crazy, crazy world the innocents are always the first casualties. Exhibits 1 and 2 - Richard Jenkins as Ted, the gym manager (channeling the lovable loser he played in "Rumor Has it"), and Brad Pitt as Chad, a completely out of depth trainer.

This ranks as my second favorite Coen comedy after "O' Brother Where Art Thou?". (I know I know everyone loves "The Big Lebowski" - but you know what they say about opinions and ass-holes).
P.S: Should I be scared that as soon as I saw the contraption Harry Pfarrer built in his basement I knew EXACTLY what it was?

Amrita: So I should be scared then. I knew I made a good choice hiding my prescience from my date.
And regarding the Coens - you, me and the academy. But they do make it so easy to love them.
